As most of you who know me knows, I’m quite a John Mayer fan, yea yea I know, he’s a douche no doubt about that, but the guy really can play! his jokes are funny enough and his blogs are interesting enough, recently, instead of listening to his new stuff I find myself going back, I still love continuum as well as room for squares, and battle studies just doesn’t cut it for me, but there’s one particular album that I get interested in every time I listen to it, and every time I do I learn something new. It’s his TRY! album, a live recording of the trio, JM himself, Pino Paladino and Steve Jordan.
Let me just say, they are just the most awesome trio I have ever heard playing blues, call me a fan boy if you want, but I personally like them better than stevie and double trouble. The JM trio is more laid back and they just change almost every song they cover but staying true to what the song originally was.
JM’s playing is always changing no matter when and where he’s playing. I’m also still enjoying his “Where the light is” live album, with 3 acts in one night, solo acoustic performance, Trio act, and full band act. that was one of the most epic live performance I’ve seen, bought the DVD, ripped it into my mac and have it on my iPhone. There’s just so much to learn through his playing: patience, improvisations, phrasings, voicings etc. that’s why till now, no matter what I’m listening to these days, I’ve always come back to listening to his stuff. I’m grateful I came across this guy! check his stuff out!
